<div style="text-align: justify;">
As we begin a new year, it's always good to start with reflection of the one prior. We take into account the joys and victories, the challenges and lessons, the memories and dreams. With the wisdom of days past, we enter with hopeful hearts into the fresh, clean pages of the year to come. Sometimes this shift means that new chapters begin, and other times it means that certain chapters must come to a close.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
I have loved writing in this corner of the internet for over nine (yes, nine!) years, and I have to say that blogging has been a wonderfully rewarding way to share thoughts, dreams, and inspiration. Through these posts, I've connected with old friends and also made new ones. It's brought about lots of fun opportunities, collaborations, events, and partnerships that wouldn't have come about otherwise. It's been a place to dream, celebrate, create and encourage. I'm grateful for the many things I've learned and have been able to share with you here. This last chapter here is bittersweet, simply because my blog has been a familiar place that will soon evolve into something different; however, I'm so excited to see all that will come from pursuing something new. The beauty of change is that it challenges us to become different and better. While you won't find my writing here in the new year, I'm thrilled to be sharing plenty of NEW and exciting adventures through <a href="http://www.aretios.com/" target="_blank">Aretios</a>! You can find me on social media <a href="http://www.instagram.com/candiceelaineh" target="_blank">@candiceelaineh</a> and <a href="http://www.instagram.com/aretiosofficial" target="_blank">@aretiosofficial</a> </div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
I'll be sharing insider updates of what I'm up to (and trust me, there's some good things coming). To receive the updates, click <a href="http://www.aretios.com/ateam" target="_blank">here</a>.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">

<div style="text-align: justify;">
It has been a joy to share these posts with you over the years, and I hope you'll join me as we begin this new chapter together! </div>

Happy December! Amidst the hustle and bustle of the holiday season, here's a few good words to encourage and inspire you as they are me! Wishing you a wonderful month!Candicehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/10762079206609715855noreply@blogger.com8tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-17698048693446800.post-63413250146999209362018-12-12T05:00:00.000-08:002018-12-14T08:10:48.438-08:00Aloha DecemberAloha! Things have been a little quiet here for the past few weeks, and that's because I was away in the islands for a little while. It is so valuable to unplug and recharge; a trip to paradise is the best way to do it, in my opinion! Here's a couple of snapshots from my adventures!<br />

Happy almost December! With Thanksgiving behind us, I'm definitely looking forward to the fun of the holiday season! As things begin to cool down, my favorite thing to wear is a simple yet classic color combination of camel and black. I love how a stylish and chic coat can totally make an outfit, and this gorgeous piece fits the bill perfectly. (p.s. Right now you can <a href="https://www.missguidedus.com/camel-longline-formal-coat-10115342" target="_blank">grab it for 50% off</a>--making it under $50!!) I added a few accessories in subtle yet complimentary print tones of leopard and tortoiseshell to complete the look. This is going to be my go-to throughout the season!</div>

As we prepare for Thanksgiving, I am reminded that it's not just a one day celebration of family, good food, and gratitude. This is a way of living--mindful of the many blessings, grateful for life's lessons, and generous with grace because we've been given much ourselves. Here's a few thoughts that are on my mind this week...<br />
<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
<span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif;"><i>"I will give thanks to you, LORD, with all my heart; I will tell of all your wonderful deeds."</i></span></div>

<br />
Since it's November, gratitude is on many a mind this time of year. Practicing gratitude is one of the best ways to change your life; I know that sounds dramatic, but it's true! Our perspective is totally changed when we focus on ways we can give to others and recognize the many blessings we've been given. Ready to practice some gratitude? Here's a few simple ways to do it.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiX3IfiltTH3CW9VMrhBySuin1XoXRVeFX-XqmECszeEeb1LHQe2x_rClTW0M6pXoui1cs6mTxaeoPh5q_fgXsN2du5HTHsHw-eG04jBHIsaVqXYZVzsQ-iGXofioQ_8UlZaFhobUaWDw/s1600/gabrielle-cole-701889-unsplash.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1067" data-original-width="1600" height="426" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiX3IfiltTH3CW9VMrhBySuin1XoXRVeFX-XqmECszeEeb1LHQe2x_rClTW0M6pXoui1cs6mTxaeoPh5q_fgXsN2du5HTHsHw-eG04jBHIsaVqXYZVzsQ-iGXofioQ_8UlZaFhobUaWDw/s640/gabrielle-cole-701889-unsplash.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
1. Make a gratitude journal.<br />
This is something I've been building into my everyday routine for the last year or two, and it's been a wonderful habit. Take a few moments each morning or evening to reflect and jot down a list of things that you're grateful for. I've found that it causes you to be more mindful of your environment or the little moments in life.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj7x5k2j7uONjuArqDsI_TnHKPUJ9yIyfJZ1kWizvI_33cnb9H9jqHn_EvE4uERzz83L2UUvXI48BtXc8-o2GvYPG1FPAxUFUytJR4MrTUSNX5wItPg6Rfxw6uGV2WGfI91xzuXu__I2g/s1600/alexandra-gorn-260989-unsplash.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1600" data-original-width="1068" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj7x5k2j7uONjuArqDsI_TnHKPUJ9yIyfJZ1kWizvI_33cnb9H9jqHn_EvE4uERzz83L2UUvXI48BtXc8-o2GvYPG1FPAxUFUytJR4MrTUSNX5wItPg6Rfxw6uGV2WGfI91xzuXu__I2g/s640/alexandra-gorn-260989-unsplash.jpg" width="426" /></a></div>
<br />
2. Clean out your closet and donate your unworn clothes.<br />
Each season, I like to do a edit of my clothes, and clear out pieces that just aren't getting worn anymore. Find some local organizations to support, who are accepting clothing donations, instead of going to consignment or Goodwill.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgZaKHIYJl_BNG414t1KEW7pa15XPzJdtZCqErC4g-mYWHhoiX3VR0Qum0YUhUir-0kSoelQvq3eAcifjGnD7TOJzxzX-W-sBEhYEndMEzjgnJLC2pvps1mXdSAFym2ZBrMQBdRa7cmcw/s1600/hanny-naibaho-308083-unsplash.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1067" data-original-width="1600" height="426" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgZaKHIYJl_BNG414t1KEW7pa15XPzJdtZCqErC4g-mYWHhoiX3VR0Qum0YUhUir-0kSoelQvq3eAcifjGnD7TOJzxzX-W-sBEhYEndMEzjgnJLC2pvps1mXdSAFym2ZBrMQBdRa7cmcw/s640/hanny-naibaho-308083-unsplash.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
3. Write someone a thank you note.<br />
It's easy to think kind thoughts about someone, or even to admire their hard work or dedication from afar, but instead, tell them! A handwritten note is one of the simplest yet often most cherished gestures. You know that person who is always doing things for others, someone who takes good care of you or provides excellent service, a friend who has been there--good times and tough times, yep, that one. Let them know how much you appreciate them! It will make their day (and yours, too)!<br />
<br />
Gratitude is something that shouldn't just be reserved for one month or one holiday. It's a year-round practice that truly makes life worth living.<br />

Happy November! It's almost the start of the holiday season, and with a new month, comes new goals, new inspiration, and a new focus. Here's a few ideas that are serving as inspiration and creative fuel to me this month! I encourage you to take some time to look over your goals, think about what you want to achieve this month, and do what it takes to make things happen.Candicehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/10762079206609715855noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-17698048693446800.post-10290369488809474672018-10-29T05:00:00.000-07:002018-10-29T16:16:02.790-07:00Dressing The Part<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

It recently dipped down into some cooler temperatures over the weekend, and that got me thinking about all the sweaters, scarves, jackets, and boots I'd like to wear. Usually it's still quite warm this time of year, so hopefully the fall weather sticks around for a little while! This season it's all about beautiful fabrics, luxe detailing, animal prints, jewel tones, neutrals and shades of black and gray. While it's definitely still not cold enough for a coat, here's a few autumn pieces that I think would be perfect for this time of year.Candicehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/10762079206609715855noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-17698048693446800.post-15146699267686666552018-10-22T05:00:00.000-07:002018-10-24T17:34:25.590-07:00Opportunity Awaits<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

I've been thinking a lot about opportunities and how often they come disguised as something else. Sometimes it is the challenging situations, or the seemingly mundane tasks that are there for us to discover an important lesson about others or ourselves, if only we are open to learning. I love how Morgan Harper Nichols (<a href="https://morganharpernichols.com/" target="_blank">her work</a> is amazing, btw!) says that gratitude and hope can teach us something everyday. Perhaps the moments spent waiting on someone or something, the everyday routines, and things we take for granted are opportunities for hope and gratitude to be a teacher. May they allow us to slow down, savor, and be present. May we see lessons and not hinderances, hope and not frustration, gratitude instead of taking things for granted. Perhaps this perspective shift will show you that there's opportunities all around-- if only we are willing to pause and ready to receive them. I challenge you (and I) to allow gratitude and hope to be our lens through which we see the world. </div>

<br />
Lately, my schedule has been so full that I've hardly had a moment to sit down and do some personal evaluating. Typically, I like to do this at the beginning of the month, or even at the end of one before the next starts. Autumn is a great season to reflect. With everything going on in the last couple of weeks, I'm just now taking a moment or two to do some journaling, taking a personal inventory of habits, routines, etc., and making a quick edit or two to some goals I'm working on. I was reminded of <a href="http://www.candiceelaineh.com/2015/09/3-major-questions-for-those-in-pursuit.html" target="_blank">this post</a> that I wrote some time ago, and found the questions posed there to be rather pertinent to some of what I'm thinking about at this present moment. If you're looking for some other good questions, <a href="http://www.candiceelaineh.com/2015/02/5-questions-to-ask-yourself-right-now.html" target="_blank">this one</a> also has some that I frequently add to my monthly checkpoint. Perhaps these will be thought-provoking posts for you as well.Candicehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/10762079206609715855noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-17698048693446800.post-25573797197280429412018-10-08T05:00:00.000-07:002018-10-08T05:00:00.139-07:00How To Be More Positive<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div>
<br /></div>
A positive life is something that we all desire; I have yet to meet someone who truly wants to be miserable day in and day out. I've encountered so many people who express their desire to become more positive or recognize the need for a better outlook on life. Here's the truth: <i>Our lives go in the direction of our strongest thoughts. </i><br />
<br />
Sometimes, we may find ourselves in different circumstances than we planned, or perhaps are facing an unexpected challenge, and it can be easy to fall into a 'reactionary' type of mood. Most of the time, those reactionary moods or thoughts are not taking us in a direction of positive growth, so it's important to know how to switch directions quickly! If you want to take your life to the next level, a positive mindset is essential. Here's three simple tips to help you become more positive and less stressed!<br />
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
<b>1. Edit your environment. </b></div>
<div>
This is such a great starting point because our environment dictates so much of who we become. Look at the music you listen to, movies you watch, people you invest time with, books you read and social accounts you follow. What sort of messages or ideas are you filling your life with? A negative environment will produce negative attitudes. We live on the level of our input--this is a great time to make some changes. Cutting out the clutter of mental junk (bad music, movies, tv shows or negative self-talk, etc.) will make a major difference in your life. Remember to replace it with good things like new goals, encouraging words, and positive people. You may encounter all kinds of thoughts, but remember, it is always your choice of which you'll entertain. </div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
<b>2. Get outside. </b></div>
<div>
It is so simple to get caught up in all the activities and work of the week that we miss spending a moment or two outdoors. There's something so peaceful and refreshing about the sunshine on your face, a cool breeze, a hike in the woods, the sound of the waves, or the brilliant colors of sunrise and sunset. If you start to feel overwhelmed or stressed with all that's on your schedule or perhaps need a boost, a few minutes outside will do the trick. Personally, I like to head out to the beach for a sunset after a hectic day; the waves and beautiful colors can transform even the most trying of moments. </div>
<div>
p.s. Leave your phone off for a bit--it's ok (encouraged, even!) to disconnect from tech and reconnect with yourself and nature.</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
<b>3. Make a gratitude list.</b></div>
<div>
Don't wait for Thanksgiving. It's never too early to start thinking about gratitude. When we take the focus off ourselves and whatever problems we may be facing, it's amazing how our perspective begins to change. One practice I've enjoyed cultivating in my own life is a gratitude journal. I like to take a few moments each day to list 5 things I'm grateful for. In doing so, it places my focus on celebrating the many blessings and great moments I have been given. When you look for the good, you'll find it. We will see an increase in wherever area we place our focus. </div>

<br />
Ok, it's officially fall, so it's time to bring out all the autumn decor, light the fall candles, and wear all the cozy sweaters (with the AC cranked down really low so it's actually cool enough). While I'm waiting for the weather to get the 'fall' memo, I'm enjoying quite a few other autumn-inspired finds that don't necessarily require a drop in temperature.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEghA50cNRBuQej5dG7P84jFrB5bYYnpc1_7zqkdL2xI4kVXymfOCKf-oL2gByVYxRDwt5X5TTSWL7HhyphenhyphenSxiQaQmTDXPyDbOURk1bwbVkhX-W2I9BmBKYQ2SfuMwzpoYzXW8cyVSGzUSaA/s1600/cozy.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="650" data-original-width="563" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEghA50cNRBuQej5dG7P84jFrB5bYYnpc1_7zqkdL2xI4kVXymfOCKf-oL2gByVYxRDwt5X5TTSWL7HhyphenhyphenSxiQaQmTDXPyDbOURk1bwbVkhX-W2I9BmBKYQ2SfuMwzpoYzXW8cyVSGzUSaA/s640/cozy.jpg" width="554" /></a></div>
<br />
<i>For the Home: </i>It's no secret that I enjoy having a candle burning in the home, especially as we move toward the fall and winter months. There's something so cozy about a flickering flame and the sweet scent of the season's essence. I was a longtime fan of the Leaves candle from BBW, but I found this <a href="https://www.amazon.com/Sand-Fog-Pumpkin-Harvest-Leather/dp/B07H4WXYL2/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1537754258&sr=8-1&keywords=sand+and+fog+pumpkin+harvest" target="_blank">pumpkin one</a> from Sand & Fog recently, and I'm absolutely hooked. It's a soy blend which is less heady than most (read: won't give you a headache), and the scent is festive without being overpowering. Also, during the fall season, I enjoy adding a few cozy blankets to my room, and <a href="https://rstyle.me/~aEqj7" target="_blank">this cozy piece</a> would look so snuggly on the end of the bed, draped on the back of a reading chair, or simply folded in a basket with a pair of slippers, and a couple of good books. One other way that I love to introduce an autumn feel to the house is through a beautiful bouquet of fresh fall florals. I'm inspired by this <a href="https://www.stylemepretty.com/living/2016/11/01/how-to-celebrate-fall-with-your-best-girlfriends/" target="_blank">gorgeous little set-up</a>.<br />

<i>For the Kitchen:</i> It wouldn't be a seasonal edit without some divine autumn-inspired recipes. Here's a couple that are tried and true faves as well as a few I'm planning to test out this season!<br />

<i>For the Closet:</i> Fall fashion has always been a bit of a challenge to wear around here, simply due to the heat, but I do appreciate a good knit sweater, a dash of animal print, or a well-styled boot. I usually choose to invest in classic autumn pieces that can be worn year after year, especially when it comes to cashmere, handbags, and shoes. It's fun to pick up a few trendy items, but since I don't have a big window of time to wear these looks, I try to avoid purchasing too much of that. Here's a couple playful and wearable picks for this season!<br />

<br />
It is always at this point in the year, that transition between summer and fall, in which I find myself reflecting on all that has happened and dreaming about what is yet to come. I was re-reading a post written around this time last year on <a href="http://www.candiceelaineh.com/2017/10/seasons-change.html" target="_blank">seasons of life</a>, and I think it is relevant (for me at least) once again. You see, there's often this desire to be farther ahead--to wish for what is to come, whether that's an exciting event, a holiday, a special age, or even just the weekend. I think about the dreams, goals, and great plans of all the things I want to do and realize it's easy to miss what's happening in the now. It is important to plan ahead and to set goals. I'm reminded, however, that it is in the present--the current season--that there are still lessons to learn, moments to celebrate and enjoy, and space to grow. Perhaps you find yourself in that same place, ready to leap into a new season or wanting to know what comes next, but may this reminder be one for you as well:<br />
<i><span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span></i>
<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
<span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: x-large;"><i>There is purpose in the present.</i> </span></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
Don't rush through life, so focused on what's to come, that you miss what's happening right now. Every season of life has value, has a purpose, and is brimming with potential. We must choose to embrace it, learn from it, and decide to be present. Be open, be teachable, be content (and not complacent), for there are things that you must learn now that will be of value you to you in the seasons to come. I am reminded of Jim Elliot's wise words, "<i>Wherever you are, be all there.</i>"<br />

Jewel tones are the perfect way to embrace fall style without diving headfirst into sweaters and coats. Each season has its own color palette, and this season, emerald spruce is definitely a current favorite from autumn's hues. The delicate leaf motif hidden among the lace is such a pretty detail, and this dress would be perfect for evening events or the start of fall wedding season. Pieces like this exude classic elegance, with a simple, flattering silhouette and feminine touches like bows on the shoulders. What colors are you drawn to this season? </div>

Here we are at the beginning of a new month and a new season! It's time to refresh that inspiration and pick up a few new thoughts to carry us toward our goals and dreams. One thing that I always enjoy about the start of a new month is that we get the chance to create things as we wish. Our actions determine the course of our lives, but before there are actions, there are thoughts. What kinds of things are you allowing in your mind? Do your thoughts bring you to places of possibility, peace, potential, and positivity? I hope they do. If not, today is a great time to start. Challenge yourself to be mindful of the thoughts you entertain...for they create actions which in turn create the life you lead. </div>

This may be a little bit early, especially for this area, but I'm starting to entertain the idea of fall and cooler weather. I know, I know, it's not even September, but it's not too far off! It's certainly too warm for sweaters and jackets at this point, but I've been starting to pull a couple autumn-inspired accessories to incorporate into my wardrobe. Floppy hats always remind me of fall and it's simple to add to any look without adding extra warmth (important for this time of year!). Also, animal print always seems to make a cameo appearance during the fall/winter season, and I love to add a pop of it here and there for a dash of whimsy. Is anyone else ready for some cooler temperatures?<br />

<br />
It's that time of year when we begin to see the late afternoon light of summer shift into the cooler nights of early fall. Before we head for all things pumpkin spice and cozy sweaters, I am reminded that it is a good time to get organized for the coming season. It's always a good idea to plan before the hustle and bustle of new schedules, routines, and activities start up. Whether you're headed back to school, back to work, or simply beginning a new week, here's a few things that I've found to be a big help in getting it together before the busyness begins!<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgxJeTgtqkw74dpv7kImDyA7FsBC_sdmHOTj_EkUckL1a7HDpQXngPZ3cnRE5-Z2IIi4rC9LV5j9KYcg_j06S4e0u0gwBK5O7ZD4Z3NR89nY88VK8M5GeAxoY_7TW59WZy6iwLLiNSLOw/s1600/stil-326695-unsplash.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1600" data-original-width="1283" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgxJeTgtqkw74dpv7kImDyA7FsBC_sdmHOTj_EkUckL1a7HDpQXngPZ3cnRE5-Z2IIi4rC9LV5j9KYcg_j06S4e0u0gwBK5O7ZD4Z3NR89nY88VK8M5GeAxoY_7TW59WZy6iwLLiNSLOw/s640/stil-326695-unsplash.jpg" width="512" /></a></div>
<br />
1. Schedule out your time.<br />
It's amazing how quickly my time can get filled if I'm not careful about where I invest it. In order to stay organized and not waste time when working on multiple projects (because I like to do all the things!), I use a calendar that breaks my day into hourly sections. I love and use <a href="https://www.target.com/p/2017-2018-day-designer-academic-planner-daily-monthly-dots-stripes/-/A-53023581?preselect=52983275#lnk=sametab" target="_blank">this particular one</a>. Seeing my day visually helps me to assign my time according to the task, and throughout the day, I am able to keep track of what project or task comes next. This helps me to avoid procrastinating on projects or simply doing tasks in the wrong order...which leads me to the next point.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiuehoZxfCNs71jVIF9xWp4wcAau09s7VAq-IG_LZuUzxWdEZ-PSYWsRpS0aqMSAYG7hLmIYcdQ5CR77M_XveRx2zQDXH4ZuNLbEEPT8dndQ2X1nOBnIQiyE310e26_6c7pXACKUdSQPQ/s1600/stil-326710-unsplash.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1600" data-original-width="1280" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiuehoZxfCNs71jVIF9xWp4wcAau09s7VAq-IG_LZuUzxWdEZ-PSYWsRpS0aqMSAYG7hLmIYcdQ5CR77M_XveRx2zQDXH4ZuNLbEEPT8dndQ2X1nOBnIQiyE310e26_6c7pXACKUdSQPQ/s640/stil-326710-unsplash.jpg" width="512" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
2. Know when your most productive times are.<br />
Are you a morning person? Night owl? Somewhere in between? Once you know when you are able to be most productive, assign your most challenging or involved tasks for that time slot on your calendar. For me, mornings are great and I'm able to work and think creatively when I'm feeling fresh after a good night's sleep. Instead of scrolling on Pinterest or Instagram, checking emails, or any other mindless task first thing, I start with working on the most important task of the day. Once I have completed the task or the portion of that project allotted for the time slot, I move on to address the rest of the items on my list. Doing this creates momentum that is necessary for getting more things accomplished instead of wasting precious time and brain power on something that's not totally important.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgOMmTcjbtRdhyWX6OYyPhZ3KJOspc0kZJn6gz_9pLboxXWS-o-JarolHC6ongwAqJSOupRC1LKO5_tN6ts2wNc9W0yrDv2Flrny85HS4Qxb8lcOjJPLQ9GC2pP_22Jyj4qrMaw2GWPQg/s1600/stil-734871-unsplash.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1600" data-original-width="1067" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgOMmTcjbtRdhyWX6OYyPhZ3KJOspc0kZJn6gz_9pLboxXWS-o-JarolHC6ongwAqJSOupRC1LKO5_tN6ts2wNc9W0yrDv2Flrny85HS4Qxb8lcOjJPLQ9GC2pP_22Jyj4qrMaw2GWPQg/s640/stil-734871-unsplash.jpg" width="426" /></a></div>
<br />
3. Make a list.<br />
Have you ever been working on something important and been interrupted by a random thought regarding something you wanted to do, an errand you need to run at some point, or a fleeting idea? You're not alone! I've definitely experienced this, and when that happens, I jot it down on a notepad or put it in the notes app on my phone. Instead of allowing it to totally derail my progress, or forgetting about it altogether, I write it down and will come back to it later. What I've discovered is that many things are often ideas for projects, random activities I would like to schedule at some point, or a task that needs to be completed (just not right away). At the beginning of each month, I'll make a list next to the monthly overview with the activities, main projects, or important events that I need to accomplish, attend, or complete. Knowing that these are part of the monthly plan, I'm able to then schedule my time accordingly in order to ensure that I accomplish or attend them.<br />
<br />

<br />
Here's a quick roundup of a few things I've been enjoying lately!<br />
<br />
1. <a href="https://www.facebook.com/mybaysidechurch/videos/10155609744567681/" target="_blank">This message</a> from Matthew Barnett is AMAZING. You'll be shocked, inspired, and challenged listening to his seven lessons he learned from running the 7-7-7 world marathon challenge! (Message begins at 28:01)<br />
<br />
2. These <a href="https://rstyle.me/~aBkM8" target="_blank">white wide-leg trousers</a> (pictured above) are chic, super comfortable and the perfect transitional item from summer to fall. Pair them with a button down, tshirt, or silky top. (p.s. they are currently on sale for under $15, you're welcome!)<br />
<br />
3. My latest go-to drink at Starbucks is their <a href="https://www.starbucks.com/menu/drinks/iced-tea/teavana-shaken-peach-citrus-white-tea-infusion-lemonade#size=11071880" target="_blank">Shaken Peach Citrus White Tea</a>. It's so light and refreshing for these warm summer days, and it's under 100 calories.<br />
<br />
4. Investing time with inspiring people.<br />
Lately, I've made it a priority to invest time with people who inspire and challenge me to be better. The people we surround ourselves with have a major impact on the person we become, so if you want to get better, evaluate your close relationships and invest more time with people who will help you become the person you want to be.<br />
<br />
5. This quote: "Challenges are a part of a purpose-filled journey. Challenges should not be a deterrent, challenges should spur us on." -- Dr. Nthabiseng Legoete<br />
I am reminded that whatever we choose to achieve or pursue, if it is of great importance or reward, it will often come with challenges along the way. Instead of shrinking back in fear, we should continue to charge forward in faith. No matter what you may be facing today, choose to stay the course and don't give up. Your dream is worth it.<br />

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="text-align: start;">Happy August! How did we get here already?! Can you believe how quickly time has flown? I love the warmth of summer days, and I'm enjoying the moments by the ocean or a afternoon dip in the pool to cool off. I don't know about you, but as I look ahead to the upcoming months, my schedule seems to get increasingly busy with new schedules, projects, and events. Even though I am tempted to focus on what's coming, I am also reminded to stay present and not wish away the current moments. I'm encouraged to enjoy the season I'm in while I prepare for what's to come! It's an interesting balance at times, but it is valuable to both prepare and enjoy. I hope that if you're in a similar place, you'll continue to plan for the next season, but you'll be present and embrace the season that you're in. As always, here's a few thoughts that are on my mind this month!</span></div>

I love having a little more time in the summers to catch up on some good books! Whether I'm packing a book in my beach bag or travel tote, I'm always looking to read and learn something new. A couple of years ago, I set a goal to complete at least one book per month, and it's become a good habit to get into. Most of the time you'll find me reading non-fiction and personal development books, but I'll throw in a few fictional stories from time to time.<br />
<br />
Here's a few of the good ones I've read recently:<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

This is a book that I think everyone should read. Basically anything by Bob Goff is going to be a home run. He's an incredible communicator, hilariously funny, and a big-thinking dreamer. This book will challenge you to see and live life differently. Double thumbs up. Also, if you haven't already, go pick up his first book, <a href="https://www.amazon.com/Love-Does-Discover-Secretly-Incredible/dp/1400203759/ref=sr_1_1_twi_pap_1?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1532890688&sr=1-1&keywords=love+does" target="_blank">Love Does</a>. It will quickly become a fave!<br />

I discovered this book while reading an article that Lindsey had authored on business and leadership and was interested to read more from her. She has a lot of great advice and practical insight for the next generation of leaders coming into the workforce, and her background in millennial (I know, I know) career success is actually very fascinating. If you're looking to take the next step in your career, wanting to know how to better communicate with those in other generations, or leading for the first time, I think you'll find this book to be helpful.<br />

This was another book discovery from an article I had read, and I'm so glad I picked up his book! Joe Navarro is a former FBI agent who is one of the leading experts in deciphering human body language. The stories he shares from his extensive career are incredibly fascinating, and his tips for better understanding the inaudible yet globally spoken language of body language were really cool and insightful.<br />

John Bevere is another author and communicator who just gets you to think differently. His writing always challenges me to be better and to connect with God in a deeper way. John's ministry has had a global impact on a major level, and he's a gifted teacher when it comes to helping others to discover their true calling and purpose. If you've ever wanted to grow and expand your faith, this book is a great place to start. I'd also suggest his book <i><a href="https://www.amazon.com/dp/1937558118?aaxitk=.s87NtgMCcb3As-g9kq1xQ&pd_rd_i=1937558118&pf_rd_m=ATVPDKIKX0DER&pf_rd_p=3930100107420870094&pf_rd_s=desktop-sx-top-slot&pf_rd_t=301&pf_rd_i=holy+spirit+john+bevere&hsa_cr_id=3845919630801" target="_blank">Killing Kryptonite</a></i>.<br />

I've heard Mark speak a number of times, and I am always a fan of how he communicates success principles in a way that is fun, engaging, and practical. This book is all about success and how to win in business and relationships all told through the story of a very unlikely hero, Fred the mailman. It's a quick read, but very memorable and fun! I'll definitely be revisiting this one again.<br />
<br />
<br />

What's on your bookshelf lately? I'm always looking for good recommendations! </div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
<span style="text-align: start;">Summertime in Switzerland is the most wonderful thing ever. The countryside explodes with blooming flowers and trees in every color, the mountains reach high into the bright blue skies, lakes are clear and cool, and the faint sound of cowbells and twittering birds makes the perfect soundtrack to the peaceful scene. We ventured by train into the winding mountains and were greeted by the most charming of villages brimming with history, beauty and picturesque views everywhere you turn. I often bring along a special piece to wear in beautiful places on my travels, and this <a href="https://rstyle.me/~ayFpE" target="_blank">gorgeous floral maxi </a>was the prettiest pop of pink against the grassy hillsides. </span></div>

Happy July and Happy Summer! We're in one of the most fun seasons of the year, and I'm especially excited for this month since it holds travels, birthday celebrations (today, actually!), and lots more! Here's a few ideas and thoughts that are inspiring me this month! What's been inspiring and motivating you lately?Candicehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/10762079206609715855noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-17698048693446800.post-47718262670387899142018-07-02T05:00:00.000-07:002018-07-02T05:00:06.821-07:00Celebrate: Stars & Stripes<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
<span style="text-align: start;">I love the Fourth of July! It's always been one of my favorite holidays since I was a little girl. It's such fun to celebrate the spirit of the country, the bravery of those who fought so valiantly for our freedom, and the beauty of this place that we are blessed to call home. This year, I decided to throw a simple patio party to celebrate. Entertaining at home doesn't have to be tricky, and when it is hot out, it's best to stick to simplistic, refreshing menu items that can be assembled in a flash...just in time to catch the fireworks! ;) </span></div>

A summer salad comes together easily with spinach, cherry tomatoes, grilled chicken, fresh strawberries, pine nuts, and a generous sprinkle of goat cheese. Whisk up a simple dressing with olive oil, pear-infused vinegar, honey, and a dash of S&P!</div>

Keep guests refreshed with some sparkling water (we like flavored La Croix and San Pellegrino!) or flavored lemonade. A black bean and corn salsa makes for a delightful appetizer that guests can enjoy before the meal. (This particular recipe is so easy and always a hit at parties!) </div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
1 Can black beans (drained + rinsed)</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
1 Cup mild salsa</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
2 tablespoons chopped onion</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
2 tablespoons chopped scallions</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
2 tablespoons chopped fresh cilantro</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
1 tablespoon lemon or lime juice</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
1 tablespoon olive oil</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
1 to 2 teaspoons minced garlic</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
1/4 teaspoon cumin</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
1 large avocado, chopped</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Combine all ingredients (aside from avocado) into a bowl and mix well. Fold in avocado last. Serve with tortilla chips or pita chips</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

End the evening on a sweet note with fresh fruit parfaits (yogurt can be swapped for vanilla ice cream, too!) in patriotic colors! </div>

Happy Fourth of July! How will you be celebrating? </div>
